Tuukka Dunkel

Finnish jazz drummer Tuukka Dunkel writes original music characterized by modern jazz mixed with gospel and soul. The music builds from the jazz tradition and blends with other contemporary styles. It’s described by melodicness, strong harmonic movements and rhythmic interaction. Tuukka has got inspiration from the Finnish natural landscapes but also from the vibrant atmosphere of Central Europe. He released his debut EP ”Lightness” in 2024 with his new quartet. 

Tuukka graduated from the Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatory and has played with bands such as Tapiola Big Band, Junior All Star Big Band Finland, Roast Burn Big Band, Tapiola Boogie Band and Mäkelä-Dunkel Family Quintet. He made his debut concert as a bandleader in 2016. Tuukka has won the first prize in Philly Joe’s Drum Contest in Tallinn in 2018. Now he’s based in Amsterdam and studies in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
