About Max

Max Kuitems is a pianist from the Netherlands. After studying at the University of Leiden, he pursued jazz piano studying under Rob Van Bavel at the Hague’s Royal Conservatory. From that point he started to become a presence on the NL’s international jazz scene, playing in many Dutch jazz venues. He’s toured in Norway, China and Germany, played on the Willem Wilmink Award nominated children’s EP ‘Reken Maar Van Jazz’, is part of indiejazz group Snuifmos and is currently playing on Jazzton’s album release tour, “In Search of You”. Kuitems is also a prolific composer who synthesizes elements of melody and adventure into a coherent whole. He’s been working on this in his weekly residence in the well-known Cafe Le Duc with numerous award winning musicians such as Ewen Grall (trio Brūme), Antonin Jaccard (The Tonal Few) and more.

Gitarist Bart Lubking nodigt zijn muzikale vrienden uit voor een energieke en spontane avond in De Twee Spieghels. Verwacht een mix van soulvolle improvisaties, bekende jazzstandards en verrassende arrangementen — gebracht met hart en muzikaal vakmanschap. Een uitnodiging voor liefhebbers van warme jazzklanken en gezellig samenspel.

Toen Linus Eppinger in juni 2022 zijn debuutalbum uitbracht, wilde hij zo lang en zo veel mogelijk optreden. Samen met Nicolai Daneck, de pianist van zijn kwartet, organiseerde hij een tournee die een maand zou duren. Het eerste – en meest prestigieuze – deel van de tournee vond plaats in Duitsland, met de gerenommeerde ritmesectie van zijn nieuwe CD. Na een aantal optredens in

Nederland, werd de tournee afgesloten in Duitsland, met zeven optredens in low-profile jazz podia en cafés. Het informele karakter van deze optredens heeft aanleiding gegeven tot de bandnaam.

The LEANING IN Underground, met contrabassist Ties Laarakker en drummer Peter Primus Frosch, bleek een enorme match – zowel op artistiek als sociaal vlak. Naast de lichtvoetige benadering van de muziek, delen we een passie voor bijvoorbeeld het werk van Wes Montgomery en het Wynton Kelly Trio uit de jaren 50 en 60. Er volgde een drietal tournees en een CD, die moet worden gezien als een muzikaal verslag van de muziek die on the road is ontstaan.

GUITAR LOVE

A magazine for guitar players quotes the following typical sayings of Van Iterson: about the sound of his instrument ` I used to try all kinds of separate hi fi material but I know now that sound primarily comes from the fingers. At home I always practice without amplifiers. That way you’re forced to get the best out of your fingers.’ And a charming `homely’ one about his love for the guitar: `A few times a year I fall asleep on the couch with the guitar on my lap. In the early morning my children wake me up ordering me to go to bed because they want to watch children’s tv’.

Martijn van Iterson may be down to earth but he obviously has a Dream. As he says himself in his straightforward, unaffected way: `I dream of the ultimate guitar solo because as far as I’m concerned it hasn’t happened yet’.

Born on July 11th 1970 in Leiden, Van Iterson graduated cum laude from the Hilversum Academy of Music in 1993. He was a member of the Jazz Dance Formation ‘All the King’s Men’; was a guest solo player on Dutch National TV and Radio with well known orchestras like ‘The Skymasters’, the ‘Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw’ and the ‘Metropole Orchestra’ and worked with several leading names like Jim Hall and Jean ‘Toots’ Thielemans. In 1996, he recorded with a.o. guitarist Mike Stern and during a project of Stefan Lievestro he worked together with drummer Gary Novak (Chick Corea) and pianist Thierry Eliez (Dee Dee Bridgewater). He played in the cross-over formation ‘D-Code’, in the quintet of bass player Ruud Jacobs, in the quartet of trombonist Ilja Reijngoud, in the ‘Piet Noordijk Quintet’  and has his own quartet with pianist Karel Boehlee, bass player Frans van Geest and drummer Martijn Vink. Prizes were many: second in the Pall Mall Swing Award (1989), second in the Wessel Ilcken Award (1991), Heineken Cross Over Award (1991), the Laren Jazz Award 2012 and last but not least the Bird Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2004.

That is in the past he says modestly, without pretence, and wonders – characteristically – whether such a review should be in a story like this.

Alex van der Spek (guitar) and Naut de Bruin (piano) share a passion for songs and songwriting. Inspired by among others the music of Joey Baron, Pat Metheny and Fred Hersch, they decided to write their own songs. Many of these songs are based on a memory, a story or an anecdote. 

Together with Boris Kwant (bass) and Marc Sentenie (drums) they form their quartet.
As a band they always try to create space for everyone’s individual ideas. In this way, the original compositions
form a starting point for a new, collaborative musical story.

PUTZ THE FUNK IN TO JAZZ!

Begin 2001 start Jan-Jaap van Os (gitaar) Fazzz om jazz toegankelijker en hipper te maken. Foppe Mijnlieff (Rhodes/Mooge) is al enige tijd de toetsenist als in 2008 drummer Reinier van Bevervoorde zich voegt bij het kwartet. Als in 2010 Philip Bakker de bas vacature opvult is de cirkel rond. Er worden nu ook naast het repertoire van Herbie Hancock tot Snarky Puppy, ook eigen nummers gecomponeerd.

De slogan van hun laatste CD/Spotify “Putz the Funk into Jazz“ zal niemand verbazen als je de band in levende lijve hoort!

About Koen

Koen van der Linden is een opkomende pianist, zanger en trompettist. Na aan succesvolle studie aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag timmert hij stevig aan de weg met zijn jazz trio en als veelgevraagd begeleider.

Koen is daarnaast bezig met zijn eigen Nederlandstalige project waarvan de eerste single Liefje is uitgekomen!

SliboWitza, samengesteld uit oud-Mioritza – leden en haar gastmuzikanten, zorgen voor Feestelijke Oost-Europese & Klezmer Muziek.

Ze hadden lange tijd niet meer met elkaar gemusiceerd in het vertrouwde Leiden waar hun muzikale carrière begon, maar SliboWitza heeft tijdens deze voor hen ‘zoveelste’ vrijblijvende muzikale reünie weinig opwarming nodig om elkaar en de luisteraar weer muzikaal te inspireren.

About Daan

Daan Schreuder is a promising young jazz pianist from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Performing regularly at De Twee Spieghels with various band line-ups, he brings fresh energy, rich improvisation, and strong musical interaction to the stage—all within the warm, intimate setting of our jazz café.

Daan Schreuder is een jonge, veelbelovende jazzpianist van het Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Met verschillende bandformaties brengt hij frisse, energieke jazz naar De Twee Spieghels. Verwacht verrassende improvisaties, sterke interactie en een avond vol muzikaal vakmanschap in een intieme cafésfeer.

Hans Braberstudeerde slagwerk aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag en aan de Berklee School of Music in Boston, waarna hij naar New York verhuisde. Hij was daar enige tijd als drummer actief en nam les bij o.a. Mel Lewis. Van 1985 tot zijn terugkeer naar Den Haag in 1998 woonde en werkte hij in Keulen, als docent verbonden aan de Rheinische Musikschule. Hans speelde o.a. met Monty Alexander, Lalo Schifrin, Benny Bailey, Don Friedman, Larry Coryell, Mike LeDonne, Vincent Herring, Dena DeRose en Ted Rosenthal.Vandaag wordt het heerlijk swingen met een paar goede muziekvrienden: Hans Schönau (tenorsax), Han van der Rhee (piano) en Willem van Wijgaarden (bas).

The Prevaricators

Jazz septet The Prevaricators bestaat sinds 2015 en heeft sindsdien een zeer gevarieerd repertoire opgebouwd. Verschillende speelstijlen wisselen elkaar tijdens optredens snel af: van cool jazz tot latin, van bebop tot danceable jazz. De kracht van het ensemble schuilt onder meer in de arrangementen, veelal van de hand van saxofonist Rolf Delfos.

Deze vier muzikanten hebben hun sporen verdiend in pop-, soul-, jazz- en Bigbands. En dat is te horen, elk stuk SWINGT.

Het repertoire is gevarieerd. Naast goed in het gehoor liggende jazz en prachtige ballads komen er ook Latin, funk en blues georiënteerde nummers aan bod.

Veel stukken worden prachtig instrumentaal opgebouwd, maar het repertoire bevat ook zorgvuldig gekozen, verrassende vocale intermezzo’s.

About Theo

Theo Naishtat is a jazz guitarist from Buenos Aires, Argentina (born March 11th,
2000), based in Amsterdam. Graduated in 2025 from the prestigious European Jazz
Master program of the Conservatories of Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, and Trondheim,
Theo has become an active musician in the European jazz scene.

He has released three albums as a leader—”Refugio” (2021), “Afinidades” (2023),
and “Oblivion” (2024)—and has contributed to numerous recordings as a sideman.
From a young age, Theo was deeply involved in the Buenos Aires jazz scene,
performing in jazz clubs, festivals, museums, and theaters throughout Argentina.

After finishing his bachelor at the Conservatory of Buenos Aires and relocating to
Europe in 2023 to further his studies, he has extensively toured with his quartet,
showcasing a unique blend of jazz with Argentine influences. His latest album,
“Oblivion,” has captivated audiences at various jazz clubs and festivals in France,
The Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Belgium, Switzerland and Argentina. He has
performed as leader in renowned clubs in Europe like Sunset-Sunside, 38 Riv, and
Son De La Terre (Paris), Bimhuis (Amsterdam), Café de Muze (Antwerpen),
Jazzhaus Heidelberg (Heidelberg), Neushoorn Jazz Café (Leeuwarden), Alte

Amsterdam-based guitarist Linus Eppinger, after the release of his critically acclaimed debut album Leaning In with Doug Weiss and Jorge Rossy returns with a younger underground version of his quartet for his sophomore record, Taking Over, which will be out on 18th April.
While booking the release tour for Leaning In, Linus quickly realized that he was going to end up with a whole bunch of gigs that were not going to meet the standards of the band he was taking on the road. That resulted in dividing the tour into a first leg with all the prestigious gigs and a second, more underground leg, where the rhythm section was replaced with younger colleagues – The LEANING IN Underground tour.
Confidently claiming the underdog position, the band decided to stick with that name.

DE MEES, DE OS EN DE BEVER

MOB staat voor een vrij gitaar jazztrio met stukken uiteenlopend van de mooie lijnen van Metheny tot de schurende changes van Monk. Eigenlijk staat MOB voor de Mees, de Os en de Bever, de namen van de bandleden Marijn Mees (Bas) Jan-Jaap van Os (Gitaar) en Reinier van Bevervoorde (Drum). Regelmatig brengt MOB’s Animal Farm een gast solist of zanger(es) mee voor wat verfrissing.Vanavond speelt de virtuoze trompet en bugel speler Matthijs Willemsen van o.a. de Sidewinders mee voor wat extra klanken in The Farm.

In 1996, he recorded with a.o. guitarist Mike Stern and during a project of Stefan Lievestro he worked together with drummer Gary Novak (Chick Corea) and pianist Thierry Eliez (Dee Dee Bridgewater). He played in the cross-over formation ‘D-Code’, in the quintet of bass player Ruud Jacobs, in the quartet of trombonist Ilja Reijngoud, in the ‘Piet Noordijk Quintet’  and has his own quartet with pianist Karel Boehlee, bass player Frans van Geest and drummer Martijn Vink. Prizes were many: second in the Pall Mall Swing Award (1989), second in the Wessel Ilcken Award (1991), Heineken Cross Over Award (1991), the Laren Jazz Award 2012 and last but not least the Bird Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2004.

That is in the past he says modestly, without pretence, and wonders – characteristically – whether such a review should be in a story like this.

Koen van der Linden is een opkomende pianist, zanger en trompettist. Na aan succesvolle studie aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag timmert hij stevig aan de weg met zijn jazz trio en als veelgevraagd begeleider.
