A crew brought together by the drive to create a collective-sound that is soaked in various influences ranging from the improvised sounds of the 50s to now, from Adorno to neo-liberalism, from India to Venezuela, via Hungary and Indonesia/NL. We are from 4 different parts of the globe, sharing a common empathy to explore areas around musical structures & collective improvisation with a keen inkling for rhythm. In the last 2 years, we have gotten our sound and act together, birthed from the narrative about moving to a newcountry to being influenced by its improvised music scene (which we adore)

Alexander Brott is a Swedish/Canadian jazz guitarist and composer who divides his time between Europe and New York where he plays with some of the world’s finest jazz musicians. Hailed as a virtuoso of jazz of the 40/50’s with role models such as Tadd Dameron, Duke Ellington, Bud Powell and Hank Jones, this young guitarist’s music has been described as both “classic” and “timeless” as well as “fresh and innovative”.
This evening he will be joined by some of The Netherlands top jazz musicians for some classic repertoire performed with a lot of authenticity, creativity and swing!
Alexander Brott – Guitar
Simon Rigter – Tenor Saxophone
Steven Zwanink – Upright Bass
TBA – Drums
“Alexander Brott is one of my favorite young players on the scene. His playing is so pure in terms of where he’s coming from and also how personal his approach is. This album is a beautiful representation of his elegant playing and his fantastic writing. Every tune is masterfully constructed and a perfect vehicle for this amazing band. All of these great musicians are playing from a place of empathy and love. This a great record!!” – Peter Bernstein
“Brott has a very distinct touch on the guitar, almost like the old guitarist from the 50’. Beautiful compositions and what great band. Congrats my brother! Sounded fantastic” – Pasquale Grasso
“Absolute top-class jazz guitar” – Dalademokraten
“Alexander Brott knows his classics like the back of his hand, but also knows how to draw inspiration from it to write compelling new pieces” – Jazzmania
“Brott is a master of the guitar, a virtuoso” – La Habitación del Jazz
“[Brott’s] fluid, bop-based lines are reminiscent of the best of a golden era that turned the jazz world upside down as it rewrote the music’s vocabulary (…) There is, in fact, nothing about The Aesthetic Attitude that is less than admirable, from the writing and choice of musicians to the performance itself. 4 stars “ – All About Jazz
“An enjoyable slice of bebop preservation” – Jazz Journal
“Brott has an elegant, pure, flawless playing style and brilliant technique. 4 stars” – Jazz ‘n’ More
“A pleasant album full of elegantly played jazz with a nostalgic shimmer” – Lira
“The pieces evoke the sound of the mainstream music from the swing era, with beautiful themes, lots of guitar/bass clarinet unison, elaborate block-chord playing, and stylish, virtuoso solos … As I listened I was reminded again and again how timeless this material was. “ – JazzMa.Hu
“In the world of music, Brott seems to have found his key to defining ideal proportions. It’s a swing on the edge of bebop, it’s Elmo Hope’s phrasing and Bud Powell’s coloring. In this diction, Alexander Brott with Stefano Doglioni on bass clarinet, Ari Roland on double bass and Keith Balla on drums, on the surface of nine original compositions, offer the best evolutionary version of the bebop and hardbop of the second decade of the third millennium” –Jazz.Sk

Mathisen & Bulatkin “An Homage to Oscar & Niels” (NO/CZ)
Per “Bass Viking” Mathisen is widely considered to be Norway’s answer to NHØP on upright bass and Jaco Pastorius on the electric. Since joining drummer Terri Lyne Carrington’s touring band in 2001, he’s been consistently on the road with a multitude of the world’s greatest jazz & fusion musicians, incl. Alex Acuña, Terje Rypdal, Nguyen Le, Bill Bruford, Keith Carlock, Antonio Sanchez, Geri Allen, Dave Kikoski, Robben Ford, Mike Stern, Bill Evans and many more.
He’s been working with young Czech pianist Daniel Bulatkin since 2018 and as bandmates in several groups they toured all over Europe at major jazz festivals (Czech Republic, Norway, Austria, Romania, Hungary, Bosnia, Slovakia…) alongside players such as Ulf Wakenius, Gary Husband, Gergo Borlai and many others.
In this new trio project, they reflect on the legacy of their earliest influences – pianist Oscar Peterson and bassist Niels Henning-Ørsted Pedersen – for the year of O.P.’s centennial in 2025.
Mathisen and Bulatkin are joined by drum talent from Italy – Egidio Gentile.

GUITAR LOVE
A magazine for guitar players quotes the following typical sayings of Van Iterson: about the sound of his instrument ` I used to try all kinds of separate hi fi material but I know now that sound primarily comes from the fingers. At home I always practice without amplifiers. That way you’re forced to get the best out of your fingers.’ And a charming `homely’ one about his love for the guitar: `A few times a year I fall asleep on the couch with the guitar on my lap. In the early morning my children wake me up ordering me to go to bed because they want to watch children’s tv’.
Martijn van Iterson may be down to earth but he obviously has a Dream. As he says himself in his straightforward, unaffected way: `I dream of the ultimate guitar solo because as far as I’m concerned it hasn’t happened yet’.
PRIZES GALORE
Born on July 11th 1970 in Leiden, Van Iterson graduated cum laude from the Hilversum Academy of Music in 1993. He was a member of the Jazz Dance Formation ‘All the King’s Men’; was a guest solo player on Dutch National TV and Radio with well known orchestras like ‘The Skymasters’, the ‘Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw’ and the ‘Metropole Orchestra’ and worked with several leading names like Jim Hall and Jean ‘Toots’ Thielemans. In 1996, he recorded with a.o. guitarist Mike Stern and during a project of Stefan Lievestro he worked together with drummer Gary Novak (Chick Corea) and pianist Thierry Eliez (Dee Dee Bridgewater). He played in the cross-over formation ‘D-Code’, in the quintet of bass player Ruud Jacobs, in the quartet of trombonist Ilja Reijngoud, in the ‘Piet Noordijk Quintet’ and has his own quartet with pianist Karel Boehlee, bass player Frans van Geest and drummer Martijn Vink. Prizes were many: second in the Pall Mall Swing Award (1989), second in the Wessel Ilcken Award (1991), Heineken Cross Over Award (1991), the Laren Jazz Award 2012 and last but not least the Bird Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2004.
That is in the past he says modestly, without pretence, and wonders – characteristically – whether such a review should be in a story like this.

Epoxy Quartet is a project led by Dutch pianist and composer Koen Gijsman. In their music, the ensemble investigates the overlap between free improvisation and contemporary composition. While their dynamic and interplay are reminiscent of Dutch free improv groups such as the ICP Orchestra, the ensemble’s lyrical and narrative sound is inspired by contemporary artists such as Little North, Melismetiq, Oded Tzur, and Trygve Seim. Epoxy Quartet provides space to four up and coming jazz performers – Koen Gijsman, Kasper Rietkerk, Tuomas Ruokonen, and Kim Jäger – who are all experienced improvisers and composers in their own right. Together they fuse to a powerful unity – just like the chemicals that produce epoxy.
The name, Epoxy Quartet, refers to Koen Gijsman’s grandfather Joop Gijsman who spent a large part of his life pioneering the production and development of epoxy in the Netherlands. This debut release is dedicated to him. “It means a lot to me that my grandfather was able to listen to this record in the final days of his life.” – Koen Gijsman.
For the album artwork, Conor Hunter used a Hasselblad CM-500 to photograph the Oosterscheldekering, the largest storm surge barrier of the Dutch Delta Works, that was constructed with epoxy from his grandfather’s factory.

Description: Michele Pazzini ‘Stick to Sticks’ project is an ode to the music composed by drummers. Many drummers have also worked as bandleaders in addition to their sideman careers and have released their own compositions. This music is rarely performed and is therefore relatively unknown in the jazz world. The compositions are versatile because they are melodic, dynamic, rhythmically complex, groovy and interesting for a wide audience.
As a drummer and composer, Michele has been researching the music of drummers in recent years. This has created the desire to make this music accessible to a wide audience. Especially for this project, Michele has arranged compositions for a guitar trio formed by talents from the jazz scene in The Hague. They perform compositions by drummers such as Jeff “Tain” Watts, Victor Lewis, Ralph Peterson, Paul Motian, Tony Williams and others. The trio, besides Michele Pazzini, consists of Jim van de Klundert on guitar and Ignacio Santoro on double bass. Both musicians contribute to this project thanks to their musicality, creativity and professionalism.

‘There is no excuse (NOXQQ) not to make music’.
Spannend? Dat zeker!

Theo Naishtat is a jazz guitarist from Buenos Aires, Argentina (2000). Part of the European Jazz Master programme, he is staying in the Netherlands for this semester at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam.
Graduated from the Conservatory of Buenos Aires, with two albums as leader, “Refugio” (2021) and “Afinidades” (2023), and many albums as a sideman, Naishtat has been a very active member of the Argentine jazz scene before moving to Europe in 2023.
He is now part of a jazz master’s programme between the Conservatories of Paris, Berlin, Trondheim, and Amsterdam.
With his main influences being guitarists like Peter Bernstein, Jesse Van Ruller, and Lage Lund, he has developed a very personal approach to the instrument with sensitivity and virtuosity, where we can also find his roots from Latin American music.

New French Touch is geen traditionele gypsyjazzband.

BIOGRAPHY
An internationally-acclaimed musician, composer and producer, Charles “Chazzy” Green’s charisma and creativity captivates music lovers of all ages.
Born in Detroit, Chazzy initially received classical training in clarinet and flute. However, something deep inside beckoned to his spirit and drew him to alto and tenor saxophones, as he began to explore blues, rock, jazz and fusion.
While attending Howard University to continue his music studies, Chazzy discovered that his musical roots extended back to his grandfather, who had played trumpet in an all-black brass band in the 1920’s.
He subsequently found that his family’s musical artistry stretched out to include other family members who were well known in the music industry, specifically Lester Bowie and Byron Bowie, esteemed musical legends and founders of “The Art Ensemble Of Chicago”.
Motivated by the musical blood pulsing through his veins, Chazzy gravitated toward musical influences that included Sonny Stitt, Cannonball Adderley and Eddie Harris on saxophone, as well as Earth Wind and Fire, Kool and The Gang, Ohio Players and Jimi Hendrix.
Having established his past and his purpose, and having achieved an early #2 hit (“I Just Can’t Control Myself”) as a member of the group Nature’s Divine, Chazzy left Howard and headed for the music mecca of Los Angeles. Upon arriving, the guitar great Ray Parker Jr . took him under his wing and showed Chazzy the musical ropes, “L.A.” style. Working with Parker, Chazzy contributed in 1982 to the Golden hit “The Other Woman” and in 1984 to the Platinum hit “Ghostbusters”.
He also met and became friends with gospel legend Howard Hewitt, who invited Chazzy to play in his band.
Over the years, Chazzy became more and more sought after and performed in 1994 on Montell Jordan’s hit, “This Is How We Do It” (Platinum), in DJ Quik’s 1998 “Rhythm-al-ism” (Gold) and in Macy Gray’s 1999 “On How Life is” (Multi-Platinum).
Chazzy toured with the Brand New Heavies, Tracie Spencer, Caron Wheeler, DJ Quik, WAR, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, Cameo, and the late legendary Bobby Womack. He is currently on tour with his group Chazzy Green & The Green Backs, The Brothers Johnson and Ray Parker Jr. & Raydio.
Chazzy frequently tours in the Netherlands and Japan where he has recently performed his own shows promoting his last album “The Funky Sax Man” and his earlier albums “I Wanna Sax U Up!” and “Street Sax”.
Indeed, in Japan, where Chazzy lived three years and speaks fluent Japanese, he is something of a legend, celebrated by music lovers across the country. His distinctive brass-and-black alto sax was given to him by Yamaha.
Chazzy Green is a dynamic, soulfully entertaining artist who you can’t stop watching or listening to! He’s one of those rare performers who becomes one with his instrument and completely owns the stage. But his extraordinary range also allows him to blend in perfectly as a supporting musician when other talents command the spotlight.
Chazzy’s musical virtuosity connects from his sax and flute straight to your spirit. And, as a composer, his thought-compelling compositions uplift the heart with their toe-tapping rhythmic grooves and melodies that you will sing for hours.
Get ready for the Funky Sax Man, Chazzy Green, when he comes to a venue near you. He will Sax U Up!
We all go through changes and challenges in our journey through life.
At the right time and place, there will be someone who will put his hand on your shoulder and say or play “It’s Alright”.
And it will come through clean and clear with a positive smile and a Detroit accent!

Nick van de Bos -Toetsen
Frans Bouwmeester-Bas
Hugo Jonker-Drums

The music of the group can be characterized as a mixture of latin-american melodies and rhythm, with some dark romantic “porteño” sound and a clear influence from the contemporary jazz greats.
All of the compositions are intentionally designed to try to catch the listeners attention by developing simple or complex motifs in the most musical way possible.
Although the improvisation is clearly one of the most important things of our music, it is also vital for us to tell a story through the arrangements and the music that is written in paper.
